Our history

              Şebinkarahisar is a town of Giresun. It became a province in 1923 and was connected to Giresun province in 1933. The name in the Ottoman period is Şarkikarahisar. Karahisar-i Şarki is also used in the form. It means "Eastern Blackwater". Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who came to Şebinkarahisar on October 11, 1924, proposed that the name of the city Şarkikarahisar be changed to Şebinkarahisar.

               It was founded by Roman commanders Pompeius, who lifted the Pontic Kingdom from the center, in 63 BC as a Roman military colony, and for a long time was named Colonia / Koloneia. This form of the Armenian form is Kroya. Kroya is used until the 16th century in Turkish.

               In 1473, Fatih Sultan Mehmet returned to İstanbul after the Otlukbeli Battle and came to Şebinkarahisar and stayed for three days and recorded in the name of Karahisar-i Şarki.
